Romance and investment scams

Updated 2026-10-02

Scammers build trust over days or weeks, then ask for money or "investments".

Warning signs

  • They want to move to LINE, Telegram or WhatsApp very quickly.
  • They avoid video calls or always have an excuse not to meet.
  • They talk about an investment, a trading app, crypto or a "sure profit".
  • They suddenly have an emergency: a hospital bill, a customs fee, a stuck payment.
  • They ask for gift cards, transfers, or your bank or ID details.
  • They pressure you to act fast or keep it secret.

What to do

  1. Stop sending anything. Don't pay "fees" to get money back.
  2. Keep the messages and payment details as evidence.
  3. Report the profile in the app and block them.
  4. In Thailand, call the Anti Online Scam Operation Center on 1441, or the police on 191.
